Senior Manager, Indigenous Relations - Southwest Region

Annual salary: $ 155,000.00 - 196,000.00
What you'll do
The Senior Manager has accountability for the team and individuals who act as BC Hydro’s primary liaison with First
Nations for a particular region of the province. With that region, they oversee the implementation of BC Hydro’s Indigenous
Relations strategy including planning, regulatory issues, consultation, negotiations and Indigenous Relations budget on
capital projects.
We are currently hiring for the South West Region.
Team Leadership/Safety:
- Builds and sustains a strong and collaborative team environment with a people-centered leadership focused on staff
empowerment and development;
- Plays a key part and role of the IR Leadership team working collaboratively with other Mangers and leading strategic files;
- Creates a safety culture where safety is first; where employees are recognized for safe performance and are expected to
comply with safety regulations and safe work practices.
External Relationships/First Nations Relationships/Relationship Agreements:
- Proactively aware of, and responsive to, external First Nations needs and able to initiate and sustain the necessary
support for building long term relationships to advance reconciliation with First Nation communities in the region;
- Provides guidance and strategic direction for the team to manage BC Hydro’s relationships with the First Nation
communities ensuring an internally coordinated approach to discussions about BC Hydro’s activities in their territories;
- Reviews, approves and provides strategic input and guidance for the development of protocols and agreements. Is
subsequently responsible for implementation of agreements to ensure all commitments made by BC Hydro, which could be
cultural, environmental, economic development related, legal, financial and regulatory in nature;
- Reviews and provides input into the development of detailed relationship implementation plans and communication
protocols and consults with senior level First Nations contacts throughout the implementation phase;
- Liaises with provincial counterparts to build relationships to advance the previous objectives, Internal Relationships and
Collaboration;
- As a core requirement of this role, builds strong internal relationships between Indigenous Relations and the rest of BC
Hydro for successful collaboration and cooperation across the organization;
- Participates in the planning and execution of other business units’ activities where they relate to BC Hydro’s obligations to
First Nations. Further ensures uniformity and coordination of those plans and their implementation across business units
Projects/ Project Management/ Consultation;
- Ensures support of BC Hydro’s Capital & Maintenance plans by overseeing and supporting project consultation with First
Nations and coordinating information sharing and engagement on the Capital & Maintenance plans Planning/Budgeting;
