Our team in the Ottawa office is seeking an Architect who will combine their creativity and aesthetic knowledge together to produce exceptional design solutions. As an Architect, you will integrate diverse requirements and disciplines to ensure client scope and design vision is met. You will collaborate and coordinate with other professional disciplines to develop design solutions according to context, budget and aesthetic requirements of architectural projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Comply with accepted project management methodology; document and manage scope, work effort, budget, cost controls, schedules, etc.
Review design requirements, drawings and schedules to ensure program and client requirements are met and all codes and jurisdictional requirements are complied with
Communicate client design requirements to the project team
Recommend opportunities for recovery of costs to ensure profitability of project
Lead design effort throughout all phases of project
Manage the design of all projects under direct supervision; ensure a high level of service and support to the client
Act as an expert resource within discipline for delivery requirements; e.g. reports, studies, projects, etc.
Review information from reports and published documents; evaluate and analyze the information to understand broad requirements of project
Develop complex architectural designs, to ensure an exemplary solution is delivered that meets quality parameters, project timelines and budgetary requirements
Coordinate design intent with others disciplines
Check, edit and mark up drawings as required
Integrate engineering requirements, site surveys and field review information, adhering to applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements
Share knowledge of current design techniques, building systems, design trends and developments to improve technical skills and implements them on project work
Attend meetings to coordinate drawings and resources, determine project criteria and provide information
Act as a single point of contact on project issues
Oversee the preparation of design reports, drawings and models following office standards
Perform site visitations to determine compliance with construction documents; identify any deviations and liaise with owner and contactor to resolve issues in a timely manner
Review project products, services and shop drawings to ensure adherence to project documents, relevant jurisdictional codes and corporate quality controls
Improve design skills of the team and ensure implementation of skills on a project by sharing expert knowledge of current design techniques, building systems, design trends and developments and providing insight, information and recommendation on sector and discipline trends
Participate in planning with clients to prioritize activities and allocate resources consistent with project needs and objectives
Represent the organization and raises the firm’s profile by being recognized as a design leader; identifies new business opportunities through contacts
Provide mentorship and direction to other members of the design team in to ensure achievement of business, department and individual goals
Lead by example to encourage productivity, innovation, team work and a high level of discipline within own discipline and sector
Have successfully completed related post-secondary education
Proficient in Architectural and design software skills (i.e. AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and Photoshop)
At least 10 years of experience in architectural design and presentation is required
Familiar with Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural permits and building codes
Demonstrate creativity in design and leadership skills
Prior experience in project management, project delivery, client management is required
OAQ license is required
OAA license is preferred
Ability to meet requirements to apply and receive applicable security clearances
