Job Description:
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Senior Underwriter will be joining our Western Canada region working remotely. They will be responsible for new business production and renewal and retention accounts in the region for assigned brokers and programs that may be assigned on a policy-by-policy basis including mid-market and complex accounts in accordance with Wynward’s underwriting standards and philosophies.
The successful candidate in this new vacancy must be customer service focused, able to establish and maintain positive working relationships, have high attention to detail, demonstrated leadership ability, and able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities:
· Assess, investigate and refer risks that are not within assigned authority levels.
· Research and evaluate submissions.
· Produce, negotiate, and underwrite new and renewal business using our philosophies and guidelines.
· Deliver exceptional service to our brokers while ensuring quality underwriting standards are met.
· Meet or exceed team targets on new and renewal business, while maintaining profitability.
· Arrange facultative excess reinsurance when necessary.
· Order and review risk control inspections and follow up on recommendations.
· Review and analyze losses and make appropriate recommendations for loss prevention.
· Develop and maintain broker portfolios through regular contact, including broker visits and attendance at industry functions and be proactive in driving success and developing new business opportunities.
· Maintain a good working knowledge of forms, wordings, and company products.
· Work closely with Management to develop and maintain positive business relationships and profitability.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 5 years experience as a Senior Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriter.
· Completion of or working toward a CIP or FCIP designation.
· University or College Degree, preferably in a business or analytical discipline.
· Experience with the creation and interpretation of insurance wordings and guidelines.
· Strong analytical, assessment, decision-making, and organizational skills.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Strong business acumen, resourceful, and detail oriented
