Island Health is actively seeking Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurses across Vancouver Island.
Island Health is looking for patient-focused team players to join their team of compassionate and dedicated nurses who provide care to patients in our Post Anesthesia Care Units.
In addition to our Physicians, our staff teams consist of Perioperative Nurses, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurses, Anesthesia Assistants, Medical Device Reprocessing Department Staff and Health Care Assistants.
Our perioperative units are state of the art, and allow our multidisciplinary teams provide a comprehensive array of services across the Island.

- Registration with BC College of Nursing Professionals as a practicing RN registrant.
- Recognized post-basic Perioperative or PACU education required for clinical areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic Life Support, Level C required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Emergency Room, ICU and Critical Care Relief Pool required.
- Two years' recent related experience for critical care and speciality units (i.e. Emergency, ICU, O.R., P.A.R., Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Psychiatry).
- Scrub nurse experience plus one year’s recent related experience for all other areas.
Island Health locations:
Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital are the Island's primary centres for trauma, neuroscience, paediatric, microvascular/plastics, orthopedic, general, obstetric, cardiac, thoracic, renal, urological, vascular, retinal and oncology services. Between the two centres there are 24 operating theatres. Both hospitals offer a host of specialty services.
Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, located mid-Island, is a major referral centre for general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, plastic surgery, gynecology/obstetrics, facial/maxillary surgery, ophthalmology and urology. Services include an eight-suite operating room, post anesthetic department, surgical day care unit and state-of the-art sterilizing and processing department.
In this slightly smaller community, Cowichan District Hospital continues its own OR upgrades to accommodate expanded services with three operating suites. Services include general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, gynecology/obstetrics, ophthalmology and urology.
West Coast General Hospital, which opened in 2001, has two modern operating theatres and provides general surgery, gynecology/obstetrics and urology services as well as endoscopy and full central supply services. West Coast General Hospital serves the communities of Port Alberni, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Tofino and Ucluelet.
As the Island's northern region referral centre, the North Island Hospital Campbell River & District has two endoscopy suites and four operating rooms that support surrounding communities and islands. Services include orthopedics, general surgery, plastics, ENT, gynecology, obstetrics and dental.
The North Island Comox Valley Hospital opened its doors in October 2017. The hospital has six operating rooms and two endoscopy suites. Services include orthopedics, general surgery, ENT, gynecology, obstetrics, urology and dental.
