Key Accountabilities:
Oversees and leads the implementation of sales and business development plans to support the overall strategy for the Broker Services department and the achievement of business objectives.
In collaboration with the President, Chinook Financial, develops long-range operating plans, budgets and programs, and ensures successful execution.
Develops and assesses new business relationships and/or partnerships and opportunities through business development initiatives and supports every step of the sales process; analyzes other new partnership opportunities to leverage Connect First’s strengths and bring in incremental business.
Acts as the main point of contact during contract negotiations with new broker partnerships; oversees the operational relationship agreement; escalates issues/obstacles/trends to the President as appropriate and with recommendations/solutions.
Ensures broker portfolios assigned to team members receive ongoing attention to maintain, improve, and retain the broker client relationship.
Provides leadership, developing and coaching direct reports, setting departmental goals, evaluating performance, and providing regular feedback; prepares individualized development plans for all direct reports.
Actively seeks feedback from client network (brokers, realtor, home builders, and other centres of influence) on products and overall satisfaction of the delivery of broker service offerings.
In partnership with Risk & Credit Services, contributes to the maintenance of an acceptable quality credit portfolio and member base, with established parameters for underwriting.
Monitors the analysis, structuring and presentation of credit proposals, integrity of risk ratings, and exception conditions specified by underwriters, auditing and compliance.
Ensures all credit decisions and recommendations are made in accordance to sound credit-granting principles; ensures compliance with regulatory policies and guidelines.
Proactively identifies and acts upon non-broker service sales opportunities; partners with the appropriate sales teams including retail, small business, automotive finance, investment, and others to solicit and provide referrals as appropriate.
Maintains a high market profile within the assigned market area with both internal and external contacts by identifying key business contacts and centres of influence within the market, representing the credit union in the community, and regularly assessing local competition and identifying local market opportunities.
Location of position will be in Calgary and surrounding areas.

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:
6 - 8 years experience in mortgage lending in Financial Services and/or real estate.
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated excellence in a leadership role.
Completed a relevant certificate, diploma, degree or designation program.
Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) designation an asset.
Proven ability to achieve sales goals and recognize new sales opportunities.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Skills and Competencies:
Superior knowledge of the mortgage industry including understanding of local market.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications and aptitude to learn other programs.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
Strong critical thinking, analytical, and leadership skills.
Excellent organizational, managerial, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.

Work Conditions:
Must be able to work flexible hours based on client availability.
Role may have an extensive travel requirement; a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required
