Conventional innovation processes, such as stage-gate and design approaches, can create harm for the world by ignoring the wider ecological, social, and economic systems in which a firm is embedded. There is a better way. At Innovation North, we believe that organizations can create prosperity and well-being for everyone by applying systems thinking to the innovation process. This requires creativity, teamwork, the inclusion of diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to a better future for all.
Who You Are:
You believe that corporations should be creating products and services that make money, and contribute to a better world. You are excited about facilitating the processes that will allow executives and researchers co-develop new R&D processes to align business value with societal values. You are motivated by new ideas and want to be part of a team that will mobilize those ideas to create real change – mobilize to business, business schools, and civil society and contribute to a social movement.
You are an excellent organizer and executor, and know how to prioritize tasks to ensure projects are completed on time. You have a creative mind and know when to push our brand to new limits, yet are able to maintain a consistent design style. You are comfortable with feedback, and like to riff with others to create something better with each iteration. You are an exceptional relationship builder, able to able to actively engage followers on social media and respond meaningfully to conversation.
Ultimately, you will amplify the work of Innovation North by creating collateral and growing our online following of systems innovators. You will also plan impactful Lab sessions where our Practice Partners are ‘all in’ whether they are in front of their laptop or part of an audience. Through marketing support and event coordination, you will help advance a ‘new way of thinking about innovation’ and kickstart a global social movement.
What You’ll Do :
Marketing Support
Support marketing and communications for Innovation North by:
Designing print and digital collateral by applying our brand standards to PowerPoints, Miro boards, reports, one-pagers, social posts, videos, etc.
Brainstorming and producing other innovative forms of collateral that amplify our message, such as livestreams, short videos, gifs/animations, etc.
Managing Innovation North’s presence on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Medium, and monitoring current and emerging trends on social media
Working with the Innovation North team to amplify our content with current and future Practice Partners and collaborators
Supporting website updates and ongoing developments, with an emphasis on user experience and search engine optimization
Engaging and working with external contractors, agencies, and internal (Ivey, Western) marketing teams as needed
Event Support & Coordination
Plan, coordinate, and execute on Innovation North’s events, including quarterly Lab sessions (3 virtual – end of January, April, and October; 1 in-person – end of July):
Sending email campaigns with session details and reminders to Practice Partners in Hubspot
Designing and producing supporting materials, such as briefing notes, session recordings, and key learnings
Overseeing logistics such as drafting a running order, coordinating venue booking and food, booking travel and accomodations, etc.
Providing administrative support such as assigning tasks in Basecamp and coordinating meetings with session organizers and the Practice Team
Acting as point of contact to Practice Partners, speakers, IT, venue, etc.
Seeking feedback to improve future events and efficiency of planning process
What You Have – The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education & Experience
1-3 years experience in marketing, communications and event planning/management
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Knowledge of business and sustainability; knowledge of systems thinking a plus
Experience working with a wide variety of marketing, website, project management and event tools such as Hubspot, Adobe InDesign, Premiere Pro, Canva, PowerPoint, Hootsuite, Wordpress, Google Analytics, Basecamp, Zoom, Miro and Doodle
Skills & Abilities
Exceptionally organized and a multi-tasking pro, able to prioritize tasks to keep projects moving and deliverables on-time
Strong background of producing print and digital collateral for a variety of audiences and across different medium
Highly creative and collaborative, not afraid to consult others and think outside of the box to find the best approach to achieve results
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to respond on the fly and be a final set of eyes on materials before they go out
Comfortable with learning new digital technologies to make processes and tasks more efficient, and coaching others on them
Operational mentality, feedback-seeking and able to make recommendations for improvement
Resourceful and results-oriented
Location:
Remote, with monthly trips to London, ON.
Position Type
This is a full-time (35-hours/week) temporary one-year contract.
Hiring Range
Based on the salary band for this role, candidates can expect to be offered a starting salary in the range of $51,300 – $64,200. When determining salary, Ivey Business School considers the market, candidate experience, as well as internal equity.
