Purpose

The Manager, Engineering position leads engineering staff in the development, design, review and implementation of large-scale rooftop and ground mounted solar photo-voltaic (PV) systems.

Reporting Relationships

The Manager, Engineering reports directly to Director, Engineering.

Direct reports include: Designer, Engineer, Technologist, Co-op Student

Accountability

Act as lead electrical engineer for the complete design and implementation of photovoltaic power systems, including drafting, design, and sealing of all electrical designs;
Manage project team through resource requests, conceptual design, task assignment and regular resource check-ins;
Lead project team along with Project Manager to develop and coordinate project schedules to ensure timely project completion;
Attend and participate in project team, client and contractor meetings;
Visit project construction sites for inspection, and perform testing and commissioning activities
Provide mentorship and assist in the training and development of electrical staff, including direct reports;
Assist in knowledge management by maintaining active knowledge of codes, standards and product availability, as well as sharing knowledge with other members of engineering department;
Participate in department initiatives such as document peer review, standard development and internal seminars;
Perform administrative tasks for direct reports, including approving vacation requests and expenses, ensuring full utilization, and completing regular performance reviews.
Required Skills and Experience

Five years+ of relevant electrical engineering and design experience;
In-depth knowledge and understanding of applicable electrical power systems;
Licensure as professional engineer in resident jurisdiction (for example, P.Eng in Ontario) is highly recommended;
Capacity and familiarity with sealing Issued-for-Construction drawing packages for commercial construction projects;
Knowledge of applicable technical codes and standards (OESC, CSA, IEEE, OBC, NFPA, etc.);
Familiarity with NEC is beneficial;
Experience with Arc flash studies, grounding grid design, use of SKM GroundMat and Power Systems Analysis software;
Experience in design, hardware/software implementation and commissioning of SCADA systems;
Understanding in protection systems;
Familiarity with SEL equipment and tele-protection is an asset;
Proficient in designing projects using AutoCAD or related CAD software;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Autonomous, sense of initiative and detailed oriented;
Experience with solar and/or energy storage systems is preferred.
Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in an Electrical Engineering or related electrical engineering field from an accredited University;
Continuing education or training courses in relevant subjects strongly encouraged.
