We are seeking a creative and bright senior data engineer (level can be adjusted for candidate’s skills and experience) to architect, design and develop data processing pipelines, serving as data backends for our applications that help business sellers worldwide to on-board, manage inventory & listing and grow their business on the largest global marketplace.

In this role, you will contribute at the very core of eBay’s selling experience, to deliver an engaging selling experience for more than 25 million sellers across 22 nations, who collectively generate billions of dollars in revenue quarterly. Performance, reliability, scalability and accuracy are of utmost importance as this area of work is at the absolute top of the funnel for all of eBay’s massive e-commerce ecosystem.

Responsibilities:
Develop, document, test a large variety of back end and server side components in Java, Python, Scala on Linux.

Develop complex data processing and analytics pipelines using cutting edge tools like Apache Spark, Apache Kafka and Elasticsearch.

Maintain and develop operational automation and monitoring for tools and data components in production.

Contribute to design.

Investigate and resolve performance issues and automation failures.

Qualifications:
Computer Science fundamentals - algorithms, data structures, programming paradigms.

Solid foundation in modern programming languages (our current stack of Scala/Java/Python is preferred but not required).

Good understanding of distributed systems and algorithms, network programming, concurrency, file system.

Comfort with the Linux terminal and unix tools.

Quick Learner, able to grasp and prototype new tools and ideas quickly.

Creative thinking, able to come up with alternative solutions to fit business requirements.

Bonus Points:
Experience with databases and distributed data storages (SQL, NoSQL, NewSQL), handling large data volumes and Elasticsearch.

Distributed streaming/data processing tools like Spark / Hadoop / Kafka.

Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible or any other infrastructure or containerization management/automation platform.

Understanding of large system design, including trade-offs in performance vs complexity, speed vs complexity, and extensibility vs complexity.
