Job Overview
Safeway is looking for a skilled and motivated Baker to join our Bakery Department team. The Baker is responsible for producing high-quality baked goods while maintaining food safety standards, production schedules, and department merchandising. The successful candidate will have experience with scratch baking, dough production, and decorating, and will take pride in delivering fresh, high-quality products to our customers every day. This role will involve travelling from location to location, schedules are written 3 weeks in advance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a variety of bakery products including breads, rolls, buns, pastries, and specialty items following Safeway recipes and production standards
- Mix, scale, proof, and bake dough using both scratch and production baking methods
- Ensure all products meet quality, freshness, and presentation standards
- Follow daily production plans and bake schedules to ensure adequate product availability
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Monitor product rotation and assist with shrink control and waste reduction
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized bakery work area
- Assist with merchandising, display setup, and maintaining fully stocked bakery cases
- Support other bakery team members as required
Qualifications
- Previous bakery or scratch baking experience preferred
- Knowledge of mixing, proofing, baking temperatures, and dough handling
- Ability to follow recipes and production schedules accurately
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work early morning shifts
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Food Safe certification considered an asset

Pay: $20.90-$26.11 per hour
