The Director, Strategic Communications leads the team responsible for marketing and communications strategy for HOOPP’s Investment Management, Research, Advocacy, and Government Affairs programs. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Communications, this individual leads direct and indirect reports who serve as dedicated strategic business partners, supporting key organizational objectives through the effective delivery of audience-focused communications initiatives. The Director ensures alignment with organizational and divisional strategic priorities and consistency in HOOPP’s brand and voice across all deliverables and channels.
As a key member of the Marketing & Communications and Corporate Operations & Strategy’s senior management teams, the Director regularly contributes to strategic discussions and decision making on issues and opportunities affecting HOOPP’s key audiences, stakeholders and overall brand and reputation. This individual is a proven leader, experienced in providing strategic communications counsel to senior leaders.
Lead the team through effective development and execution of marketing and communications strategies to inform and engage key external audiences
Ensure the team understands and analyzes business requirements and objectives effectively, while leading the development of engaging marketing and communication strategies to achieve short- and long-term objectives
Lead and influence business planning at the earliest stages to ensure effective and timely integration of HOOPP’s brand and voice in all communications campaigns
Support the team in crafting compelling narratives that effectively communicate HOOPP’s mission, values, and strategic priorities to diverse audiences
Lead and manage cross-divisional initiatives that reinforce HOOPP’s brand, reputation and core values
Actively participate in strategic planning, decision making and issues management as a key member of the M&C and COS management teams
Demonstrate a people-first attitude, focused on supporting, developing and empowering team members and ensuring opportunities for continuous learning
Ensure team members are always balancing the needs of the business with fiscally responsible and scalable communication solutions
Partner with team members to monitor key performance indicators of communication initiatives (e.g., business partner feedback, team insight, available data analytics) to provide strategic recommendations to partner groups
Working closely with Sr. Director, contribute to effective communications planning and execution and ensure consistency in processes, templates and workflows that help deliver a steady and consistent service experience for all internal partners
Ensure communications products are always meeting the highest standards of quality control and effectiveness
Identify and pursue opportunities with existing business partners, leading creative brainstorms and offering traditional and non-traditional ideas to address needs and goals
Guide team in the leadership and management of multiple projects and campaigns, delivering on budget and on time
Ensure timely escalation of potential issues and opportunities
University degree or college diploma in journalism, communications or public relations, or equivalent training, education and/or experience
10+ years of demonstrated marketing and communications experience working in a comparable position, supporting delivery of major client-facing projects
Experience in supporting senior leaders across divisions with strategic counsel related to marketing and communications
Ability to adapt to a fast paced and matrixed business culture that practices collaboration across various teams, functions and levels
Proven expertise in leading marketing and communications for pensions, investment management firms or similar financial services organizations
Superior written and oral communication skills including demonstrated writing and editing skills for diverse platforms and channels that could be promotional, informational or marketing focused
Advanced knowledge and use of social, digital and communications channel delivery methods and approaches
Proven organizational skills, including balancing multiple responsibilities and effectively meeting deadlines
Exceptional leader, coach and collaborator, experienced in managing communications teams
Exceptional people management skills characterized by a ‘put the interests of your team first’ attitude
Ability to analyze business problems/requirements and develop/communicate meaningful and effective marketing solutions and strategies in a clear, well-organized manner
Ability to work effectively as part of an energetic and entrepreneurial team
