Research Associates:
Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to perform high-level, complex research activities, and will normally hold a Master’s degree. Individuals with training beyond a Master’s degree who have limited experience may also be appointed into this classification level.
Position Overview:
The Research Associate (RA) will contribute to a multidisciplinary project focused on understanding and mitigating cadmium accumulation in flax through zinc treatments. The role involves experimental design, implementation of greenhouse trials, and advanced analytical techniques including hyperspectral imaging and heavy metal quantification. The RA will work closely with a research team to evaluate both foliar and soil-applied Zn strategies and assess plant physiological responses under Cd stress.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong background in plant science, agronomy, soil science, or a related field is required.
- Experience with plant physiology experiments and stress response analysis is required.
- Knowledge of hyperspectral imaging techniques is an asset.
- Ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments independently.
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS).
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and implement experiments, data collection protocols, and standards.
- Determine the appropriate methodology to carry out the identified research goals.
- Conduct high-level and complex academic research and literature searches.
- Collect and manage research data, conduct advanced analysis of research results and document findings.
- Interpret research findings, perform editorial tasks, and present project status and insights to stakeholders.
- Organize and host seminars, focus groups, community meetings, special events, and other forms of academic and community engagement.
- Identify and assist in securing funding opportunities; prepare and submit documentations required by funding agencies.
- Support project procurement and staff supervision.
- Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project.
- Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant field of study.
- Experience in conducting independent research, start to finish.
- Experience in writing technical reports, including peer-reviewed articles, is required.

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
This position is eligible for extended health benefits, excluding pension.
