Job Description – Shop Labourer (Custom Millwork)Position Summary
The Shop Labourer supports the day-to-day operations of the custom millwork shop by assisting cabinet makers, machine operators, and finishers. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment while helping with material handling, assembly, and general production tasks. The ideal candidate is reliable, hardworking, and eager to learn the custom woodworking trade. The job at first would primarily be cabinet door sanding and cabinet prep work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist cabinet makers and production staff with daily shop tasks.
- Load, unload, and move materials, lumber, sheet goods, and finished products throughout the shop.
- Prepare materials for assembly, or finishing.
- Sand, clean, and inspect components prior to finishing.
- Assist with cabinet and millwork assembly as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, equipment, and common shop areas.
- Empty dust collection bins as required.
- Operate basic shop equipment and hand tools safely after receiving appropriate training.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is an asset.
- Previous experience in woodworking, construction, manufacturing, or a shop environment is preferred but not required.
- Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Strong work ethic with a positive attitude.
- Reliable and punctual.
