Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
- Ensure all repair procedures and requirements are followed, per FRA & AAR procedures, while ensuring compliance with all XRC policies, regulations, and maintenance procedures.
- Perform various physical tasks as assigned.
- Move, secure, install, build, load, or unload materials.
- Perform specialized tasks which may require on-the job training.
- Operate heavy and light equipment effectively, depending on the jobsite/assignment.
- Transport tools, equipment, or other material as directed by supervisor.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
Work Hours:
General work hours are Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Overtime may be required.
- Out-of-town travel required.
Rail Car Helper Qualifications/Skills:
- 1-3 years of railcar repair experience with a working knowledge of the AAR Field Manual an asset.
- Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
- Attentive to detail and consistently alert to ensure safety.
- Capable of following instructions and communicating with co-workers.
- Welding skills are an asset.
- Oxygen/acetylene torch cutting skills are an asset.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- Class 5 license with a clean abstract.
- High school diploma is an asset.
- Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment.
- Previous experience, particular in the industry, preferred.
