OPPORTUNITY
Pals Geomatics Corp. is looking for an ambitious individual who is seeking a CAD Technician position in a growing Edmonton Land Surveying Company.
Reporting to the respective Department Manager in the Legal Division, the Legal Survey Project Coordinator is responsible for receiving and coordinating client survey requests from initial intake through technical completion and preparation for review and signature by an Alberta Land Surveyor.
The position combines project coordination with legal survey technical expertise. The coordinator opens and tracks projects, communicates with clients and project staff, performs or reviews boundary and survey calculations, monitors quality and completeness, and proactively resolves or escalates issues that could affect schedule, scope, quality or client service.
The Legal Survey Project Coordinator works closely with Alberta Land Surveyors, field crews, drafters and other technical staff to ensure survey evidence, calculations, plans, supporting documentation and project records are complete, accurate and organized before the project is submitted for final professional review.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivery
Project Intake and Planning
- Receive client requests, confirm project requirements and available information, and establish the job in Pals systems.
- Review titles, plans, field notes, client drawings and other supporting information to identify scope, technical requirements and potential issues.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, priorities and task requirements in coordination with the Department Manager and Alberta Land Surveyor.
Technical Coordination and Survey Calculations
- Perform and/or review legal survey and boundary calculations, field return processing, evidence assessment and plan checking within demonstrated competency.
- Interpret field notes, registered plans and client drawings and provide clear technical direction to field crews and drafting staff.
- Use applicable software including MicroSurvey, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, TBC, Magnet Office and Pals in-house tools and systems.
- Coordinate required revisions, additional field work and supporting documentation to advance the project toward completion.
Quality Control and Project Closure
- Monitor each project for completeness, quality and progress and follow up on outstanding items.
- Review calculations, plans and project records for consistency and completeness before submission to the Alberta Land Surveyor for final professional review and signature.
- Ensure comments and deficiencies identified by the Alberta Land Surveyor are addressed promptly and accurately.
- Ensure final deliverables, correspondence and digital/paper records are properly named, filed and closed in accordance with Pals procedures.
Financial
- Monitor project progress against scope and budget and identify potential overruns or scope changes for escalation.
- Support accurate job status, billing readiness and project close-out information.
- May monitor project budgets, flag scope/budget concerns and prepare jobs for billing; pricing changes, write-offs and other financial commitments require Department Manager approval.
Customer
- Act as a primary day-to-day contact for assigned client projects from intake through completion.
- Clarify client requirements, provide appropriate progress updates and coordinate the collection of missing information.
- Respond to client questions within the position’s technical authority and promptly escalate professional, contractual or unresolved technical matters to the Department Manager or Alberta Land Surveyor.
- Represent Pals in a professional and respectful manner and support a consistent, responsive customer experience.

- Coordinate and provide project-specific direction to field crews, drafters and technical staff.
- Communicate priorities, deadlines, technical requirements and outstanding items clearly and proactively.
- Identify project resource needs, workflow constraints and recurring quality issues for the Department Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Geomatics technical diploma from an accredited Technical Institute (i.e. NAIT) or equivalent relevant education and work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in legal surveying, including field return processing, survey calculations, boundary calculations and/or preparation and checking of legal survey plans.
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta legal survey practices, registered survey plans, title information and survey evidence, with the ability to identify issues requiring review by an Alberta Land Surveyor.
- Demonstrated project coordination experience, including client communication, job setup, scheduling, tracking outstanding work and driving projects through to completion.
- Proficiency with applicable geomatics software such as MicroSurvey and Autodesk Civil 3D; experience with TBC, Magnet Office and MS Office programs is an asset.
- Ability to organize multiple concurrent projects, communicate clear technical direction and maintain accurate digital and paper project records.
