People, Words & Change is a nonprofit, English language, adult literacy Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) program funded by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. The PWC Computer Program offers small-group instruction to learners who are working on basic digital literacy skills.
People, Words & Change is looking for an energetic, dynamic individual to assume the duties of an instructor in our computer skills program. The computer instructor supports the work of the program by organizing and running computer labs for learners who wish to develop basic literacy and essential computer skills, using pre-made, self-guided modules. This position requires an individual possessing empathy and patience to work with individuals who may not have any previous computer experience and who may experience learning challenges. This is an on-site position.
MAIN DUTIES:
- Maintain a program of appropriate instruction for learners at beginner and intermediate levels of computer essential skills.
- Respond and adapt to the abilities of individual learners; maintain a system of monitoring learners’ progress.
- Update current modules and develop new modules as needed to ensure content is relevant to job seekers.
- Keep up to date on the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework.
- Research online and elsewhere for learning programs, websites and other resources that can enhance learners’ experience in the computer lab.
- Manage social media accounts and develop promotional materials as needed.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Recognized Teaching Certification and/or related experience.
- Literacy and/or English as a Second Language teaching experience working with adults.
- Excellent command of Windows 11, Microsoft Word. Basic knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint and Canva.
- Ability to maintain social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
TIME COMMITMENT: Thirty hours per week including one evening. Attendance at occasional PWC events. Some travel to other locations within Ottawa may be required.
SALARY RANGE: $28.15 - $30.00/hr to start. We offer a generous paid holiday allotment (4 weeks).
