Do you love working with large datasets and using your critical thinking and problem solving capabilities to reconcile data inconsistencies and ensure data accuracy? Feedlot Health Management Services Ltd. (FH) is looking to hire a detail–oriented individual with excellent computer skills (particularly related to data management, compilation, verification, and summarization) to provide support for Research and Development initiatives.

The successful candidate would join the approximately 20 skilled and engaged people currently on the Research Support Team.

Primary focus is on ensuring data quality control.
Understanding feedlot production activities to logically link that understanding to what is seen in the data (critical thinking and problem solving)
Competent data extraction using SQL code and Microsoft Access.,
Accurate and efficient dataset compilation and verification
Complex data management including comparison of data from multiple sources, reconciliation of discrepancies, and identification of outliers and errors
Automated summaries and reports created in Microsoft Access using SQL and VBA
Creation and checking of charts and graphs in Excel
Identification of areas where the Team can improve its data management, verification and summarization of data
Creation and maintenance of data standard operating procedures
Collaboration and communication with the Production Consultant Team, within the Research Support Team and with other Feedlot Health Teams as required for the efficient delivery of accurate research data for Feedlot Health to provide to its clients
Basic mixed model analysis (univariate) using SAS software
This position does NOT focus on advanced/exploratory analytical or economic modelling, or programming in software such as R or Python

The skills, knowledge and experience essential for success in this position:

Strong communication skills
Candidates of any science background (Bachelor degree or Masters degree) who love to work with numbers and data. Preference given to candidates with knowledge of animal science or animal agriculture (and in particular feedlot production)
Excellent computer skills and exceptional proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
Exceptional attention to detail with a desire to make sure data are correctly summarized and documents are consistently formatted
Excellent coordination, problem solving and prioritization skills
Ability to work individually and in a team environment
Previous experience working with large datasets including troubleshooting outliers, verification, and summarization
