Omineca is seeking an experienced Red Seal Metal Fabricator to join our fabrication team.
This position is based in our Prince George, BC fabrication facility and involves working with large fabricated assemblies, structural steel, and heavy industrial equipment. The role requires standing for extended periods, lifting and positioning steel components, operating around overhead cranes, and working safely in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
Our CWB-certified fabrication shop designs and builds large-scale structural steel, material handling systems, processing equipment, and custom industrial components for the forestry, pulp and paper, mining, and heavy industrial sectors. Description:
A regular day in the life of a Fitter at Omineca includes working independently and as part of a team to layout, fit, and assemble mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum into metal structures, industrial equipment, and custom parts. Our Fitters have the opportunity to work on a large variety of projects for customers working in the natural resources industries.
The successful candidates would benefit from a solid understanding of advanced measuring techniques and will need to be able to read and interpret "napkin drawings", blueprints, and engineered drawings. They will have proven experience operating equipment such as welders, grinders, cutting torches, brake presses, metal shears, and overhead cranes. Candidates will also be well served by a background in design work or detailing which will enable them to review and assess technical drawings with a critical eye to reduce errors prior to fabrication.
A strong attention to detail, a commitment to safe work practices, and a drive to produce top quality work are critical for this position.
Duties:
- Interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and blueprints.
- Lay out, fit, and assemble large structural steel components and heavy industrial equipment.
- Fabricate conveyors, transfer systems, chutes, hoppers, bins, platforms, support structures, and custom process equipment.
- Ensure assemblies meet required dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
- Work closely with welders, machinists, and project teams throughout the fabrication process.
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, ironworkers, drill presses, hydraulic presses, and other shop machinery.
- Safely operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
- Participate in fit-up inspections and quality control processes.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that support quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Red Seal Metal Fabricator (Fitter) Certification.
- 5+ years of experience fitting heavy structural steel and industrial equipment for sawmills, pulp and paper, mining, or industrial processing facilities.
- Ability to read and interpret complex fabrication and engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of fabrication methods, tolerances, and quality control.
- Experience working safely around large assemblies and lifting equipment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Pride in producing quality work and meeting project deadlines.
- CWB welding certification (FCAW).
- Overhead crane, forklift, and rigging experience.
