Online Social Sciences & Humanities Teacher – Grades 9–12
Remote | Part-Time | Flexible Hours
Apex Academy Online is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Social Sciences & Humanities teacher to teach Ontario Secondary School credit courses in a flexible, online environment.
We are looking for a teacher who is comfortable supporting students across a range of Grade 9–12 courses. Depending on experience and qualifications, these may include Canadian and World History, Civics and Citizenship, Career Studies, World Issues, Geography, and other Social Sciences and Humanities courses.
Courses are delivered asynchronously, allowing teachers to work remotely and with a high degree of flexibility.
Our course content and structure are already in place, so you won't be expected to build courses from scratch. Teachers are provided with established course materials and templates, along with ongoing support and guidance from our academic team and instructional designer.
What we're looking for
The successful candidate will:
- Hold OCT certification, or have equivalent experience teaching Social Sciences, Humanities, History, Geography or related subjects
- Have strong subject knowledge in one or more relevant areas
- Understand and follow OCT professional standards
- Have a working knowledge of Ontario's Growing Success assessment and evaluation framework
- Be comfortable supporting students with a range of learning styles, abilities and educational backgrounds
- Encourage students to think critically, consider different perspectives and make connections between course material and the wider world
- Build positive, supportive and professional relationships with students in an online learning environment
- Provide clear, constructive and timely feedback on student work
- Communicate reliably with students and the Apex Academy team
Previous experience with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Brightspace or Moodle is an asset, but is not essential. We are much more interested in strong subject knowledge and good teaching than technical expertise. Training and technical support will be provided.
Who should apply?
We welcome applications from qualified teachers at all stages of their careers. This opportunity may be particularly well suited to:
- Current teachers looking for additional flexible teaching work
- Part-time teachers
- Retired teachers who would like to continue working with students
- Newly qualified teachers looking to build their experience
- Teacher education students in their final year of study
You don't need to have taught every subject listed above. We're interested in hearing from educators with strong backgrounds in History, Geography, Civics, Careers, Social Sciences, Humanities, or related areas, and course assignments can reflect individual experience and strengths.
If you enjoy helping students understand the world around them, develop their own ideas and engage thoughtfully with social and historical issues, we'd be happy to hear from you.
