The Bridges Department – Western Region, is looking for a Field engineer (Bridges) for our team in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Manager, Major Bridges & West Region, the Field Engineer will be responsible for coordinate field activities, ensure compliance with design specifications, and contribute to the safe and efficient execution of construction work. The successful candidate may also act as Engineer of Record (EoR) on assigned projects, assuming professional responsibility for engineering deliverables and technical decisions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working on-site and developing expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects.
Support daily field engineering operations on bridge construction sites
Assist in ensuring construction activities comply with drawings, specifications, and safety standards
Act as Engineer of Record (EoR) for assigned bridge projects, providing technical oversight and professional accountability for engineering deliverables.
Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams to resolve technical issues
Monitor work progress and report on project status, risks, and deviations
Assist in managing RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, and change documentation
Conduct site inspections and support quality control activities
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies
Maintain accurate project records and prepare field reports
Degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with a Structural major). Registered as Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA.
8+ years of experience in engineering practice in analysis and design of various types of bridge and transportation structures; railway structures is an asset.
Experience with reviewing condition survey reports and making recommendations for rehabilitation strategy.
Demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects with variety of complexity, type of bridge, size and scope.
Experience with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Code.
Proficient in SAP 2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, Staad Pro, ETABS, Bentley ProjectWise and Microsoft Office applications.
