What is the opportunity?

The National Client Group is looking for an Associate to join its Toronto team. The role reports to the Managing Director, Greater Toronto Region (Relationship Management). You will work directly with our senior team members and support them in serving current client needs and marketing target companies. RBC National Client Group is a team of senior coverage officers and credit experts providing a comprehensive range of corporate finance solutions to private mid-market and small cap public Canadian corporations.

It is anticipated the role will, in time, include a corporate lending responsibility. At that time the role will also support our NCG Finance team with responsibilities including NCG portfolio quality. You will play a key role in the realization of National Client Group objectives through both the relationship management and, in time, structuring, delivery and management of the bank debt of our targeted customer base.

What will you do?

Supporting, and contributing to idea generation activities through research, analysis of company financial statements as well as industry and market information, and preparation of client presentations.
Actively research and provide timely updates on current or target clients and prepare material for, and participate in, relationship development activities such as client presentations.
Prepare and/or manage documentation on new client and revenue opportunities for submission to internal decision-making committees.
Liaising with internal partners across RBC to ensure the provision of exceptional customer service to the portfolio of clients.
On an occasional basis, the incumbent may be required to prepare material for internal sales conferences or analyze quarterly or annual operational performance data for the group to facilitate strategic decision-making initiatives.
In time, support NCG finance / relationship managers to structure, deliver, close, and monitor syndicated and bi-lateral loan transactions under direction of Director NCG Finance, including credit submissions and transaction presentations
In time, work with Group Risk Management to ensure proper alignment with credit processes and client expectations
Provide analysis and support to Director NCG Finance and NCG Finance colleagues for NCG advice on risk and return associated with loan transactions contemplated as part of client strategies.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:
Strong quantitative, financial and analytical skills with an ability to analyze company financial statements and prepare financial models
Professional oral and written communication skills are an absolute must
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Must be skilled at developing concise and presentable power-point presentations
High level of attention to detail in both written and financial work
Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines, prioritize work, multi-task responsibilities and devote appropriate attention to each assignment while working on multiple projects

Nice to Have:
Knowledge of credit and credit metrics is an asset
Work experience in corporate lending / finance and / or risk management
Preference given to individuals with a B.Comm or BBA, or those in the process of pursuing an MBA or CFA or those having already obtained Chartered Accountant designation
