Position summary
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).The Chronic Viral Illness Service (CVIS) is part of the MUHC. The CVIS team has an active research program, conducting numerous clinical trials each year to provide innovative research to their patients.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, organized, enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team. Under the supervision of the Principal investigator, the incumbent is responsible for acting as the Social Worker for a large prison-based study at a provincial correctional facility in Montreal.

The study will evaluate whether an on-site multidisciplinary team, composed of a nurse, a social worker and a patient navigator, can increase screening, linkage and treatment of people in prison with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The incumbent will aim to address the psychosocial and community needs of inmates by facilitating access to resources and services that they may require at the time of release to improve linkage to HCV care.

General Duties
  • Conduct face-to-face psychosocial assessments with all inmates with chronic HCV,
  • Identify required needs and services of inmates,
  • Develop individualized discharge plans for all inmates,
  • Administer questionnaires to inmates,
  • Direct inmates to appropriate community referrals upon release,
  • Provide appropriate supports to inmates,
  • Timely completion of all study documentation forms,
  • Work well in a multidisciplinary team,
  • Conduct other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor degree in social work, Master’s degree an asset,
  • Good standing member of the Professional Order of Social Workers of Québec,
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience,
  • Work experience in prison setting and in the field of HIV/HCV an asset,
  • Bilingual French and English (spoken and written) mandatory,
  • Strong work ethic and respect of confidentiality,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Strong sense of organization and high degree of efficiency,
  • Resourcefulness, autonomous and sense of initiative,
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office,
  • Individuals with a history of incarceration cannot be considered for the job.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, Full-time – One-year contract
Work Shift: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday
Pay Scale: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Work Site: RI-MUHC (5252 Blvd de Maisonneuve O, Montreal) and provincial detention facility of Montreal (Bordeaux prison).
