About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 81-year-old gentleman who spends most of his day in a reclining chair due to limited mobility. He uses a walker but cannot walk safely without physical support and assistance. He's a devoted sports fan who enjoys watching Blue Jays baseball and hockey on TV. While he has some early signs of possible dementia, he remains engaged and responsive to conversation and mental stimulation. He lives at home with his wife, who along with their daughter provides full-time care. The family is looking for reliable weekly support to give both caregivers a much-needed break while ensuring their father receives quality care and social interaction.
Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on mobility assistance using his walker, supporting him during transfers and short walks around the home
- Assist with toileting and personal hygiene needs with dignity and respect
- Reheat prepared meals and assist with feeding as needed
- Engage him in light exercises to maintain strength and mobility
- Provide companionship through conversation, watching sports together, and other activities he enjoys
- Implement fall prevention strategies and maintain constant supervision for safety
- Encourage cognitive engagement through questions about TV programs, time, scores, and other mental exercises
- When weather permits, assist with getting him outside or into the car for short outings
- Complete detailed visit reports documenting his condition, activities, and any concerns
What We're Looking For:
- Experience supporting seniors with limited mobility and walker/wheelchair use
- Proven ability to perform safe transfers and provide physical support during walking
- Competence with toileting assistance and personal care
- Strong understanding of fall prevention and safety supervision techniques
- Patient, calm demeanor with excellent communication skills
- Ability to engage clients in meaningful conversation and activities
- Experience working with individuals showing early cognitive changes
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative when needed
- Someone who brings positive energy and makes the client feel comfortable
- English speaking
Schedule:
One weekly visit every Tuesday afternoon/evening, approximately 5-6 hours per shift (flexible between 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM). This is an ongoing recurring position in the Lyndhurst area, approximately 30 minutes from Kingston.
