Position Overview
The occupational therapist works within the Mental Health and Addictions Service and contributes to the assessment, treatment, and functional recovery of clients, primarily through individual and group clinical interventions.
These interventions are provided within an interdisciplinary approach and an integrated treatment plan. Depending on service needs, they may include psychoeducational activities, anxiety management, development of functional and adaptive skills, as well as structured group approaches.
Regular Clinical Responsibilities:
The occupational therapist provides services to a mental health clientele with concurrent disorders by conducting functional, psychosocial, and occupational assessments in order to establish, implement, and guide treatment plans based on clients’ needs, abilities, and barriers to daily functioning.
He or she provides individual and group occupational therapy interventions, facilitates therapeutic activities aimed at promoting autonomy, emotional regulation, coping strategies, and participation in meaningful life roles, and works closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality and continuity of care.
The incumbent also ensures accurate clinical documentation and contributes to the continuous improvement of clinical practices.
As part of the OWN program, the occupational therapist supports clients experiencing work-related or work-associated mental health conditions and concurrent disorders. He or she contributes to functional recovery, the assessment of work capacity, the identification of required accommodations, and the planning of return-to-work or work retention, in collaboration with the clinical team, the OWN central team, WSIB, and other relevant partners.

What we are looking for
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent)
- Registration certificate with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in mental health and concurrent disorders
- Experience in group intervention and facilitation (group triage and pre-assessment, group intervention techniques, development of group protocols, documentation and chart follow-up, liaison and case coordination, etc.)
- Experience in group psychotherapy
- Training in cognitive behavioural therapy
- Demonstrated clinical interviewing and assessment skills
- Knowledge of issues affecting rural communities
- Practical knowledge of both official languages
- Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Good attendance record
- Positive attitude consistent with HGH values
