West Creek Farms is seeking a mixing line supervisor for a full-time position. We are a custom soil blender servicing the greenhouse, nursery, and landscaping industry.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mixing Line Supervisor who will be responsible for safe, and efficient operation of the production/ mixing line, product-in-process, and bulk delivery systems.
The ideal candidate will ensure that all operations run smoothly, maintain high standards of safety, and lead a team of production workers effectively. This role requires strong numerical skills.
Duties
- Operate and coordinate the mixing line and the associated systems in the pump room to the assigned schedule and produce the right mix in the right amounts.
- Improve turnaround times and minimize downtime of the mixing line
- Coordinate and supervise the delivery of bulk growing media products so that the right mix is delivered to the customer at the right time at the correct delivery location.
- Assign, prioritize, and supervise the work for each person
- Coordinating the bulk delivery system including assigning drivers, tracking trucks, and Loading trucks in a manner to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure staffing matches the operational requirements for the scheduled workload
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to maintain and continuously improve systems including the standard operating procedures for, safe and efficient operation of the mixing line, accurate triggers for placing product on the mixing line, cleanliness and safety, training program, schedule for regular and preventative maintenance, and audits to ensure the system operates consistently.
- Collaborates/ plans/works to achieve the annual goals and objectives.
- Works with the maintenance staff to schedule trucks for maintenance and inspections
- Ensures the team works in compliance with all “Work Safe” regulations and practices
- Use a continuous improvement framework in fostering continuous improvements
- Work with operations manager to evaluate staff in performance of their duties
- Maintain a high level of customer service and a corporate professional image
- Ensure confidentiality of all company information.
- Encourage and develop teamwork to maximize individual efforts
Required skills and qualifications
- Experience in the horticultural industry is a strong asset
- Physically able to do the job including lifting of products (50 lbs.), cleaning areas, nimbly navigating stairs, etc.
- Numerical competency
- Skilled with Microsoft Office suite
- 3 years of supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to lead a team
- Excellent verbal English and great interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience and training in lean process improvement & lean management an asset.
- Exudes a positive and strong work ethic.
- At least 2 years’ experience operating various equipment including loaders, bobcat and forklifts.
- Proven ability to adapt to changes in procedures and job assignments.
- Proven ability to work independently and as an integral member of a diverse team.
- Proven ability to work with others to continuously improve the workplace processes.
- Emotional resilience
- Own transportation is required.
- Seasonal overtime is required.
· Must be available to perform general labour throughout plant and property as required.
