Hillfield Strathallan College is seeking an innovative, student-centred Librarian, beginning in August 2026, to provide strategic, College-wide leadership for library programming across all four HSC schools. Reporting to the Learning Commons Coordinator, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the library team, faculty, and staff to deliver dynamic services, instructional programming, and initiatives that foster inquiry, reading culture, and research excellence. Crucially, the Librarian will champion evolving literacies, specifically information, media, digital, and AI literacy, to design meaningful learning experiences that prepare students to navigate and thrive as ethical, critical thinkers in a technology-rich world.

Provide strategic leadership for the College's Learning Commons, ensuring it remains an inclusive, welcoming, and dynamic environment that supports teaching, learning, collaboration, and innovation.
Lead AI integration and emerging technology adoption: champion the College's strategic direction in Artificial Intelligence by guiding the community in its ethical, responsible use (including prompt literacy, source verification, academic integrity, privacy, and bias awareness). Continuously evaluate and stay abreast of new emerging technologies to ensure the Learning Commons remains at the forefront of educational innovation.
Develop and implement a comprehensive library program that advances literacy, inquiry-based learning, and academic excellence across Montessori to Grade 12.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy, research skills, citation practices, media literacy, and digital citizenship seamlessly into classroom instruction.
Promote a culture of reading and inquiry by developing engaging literacy initiatives, curating dynamic physical and digital displays, providing readers' advisory services, and hosting author visits, book clubs, and community events.
Curate and manage a diverse, inclusive collection of print, digital, and multimedia resources that support the curriculum, student interests, and multiple perspectives.
Oversee library operations and a seamless digital ecosystem, managing acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation, budgeting, and the ongoing promotion of online databases, eBooks, and research guides.
Foster a collaborative Learning Commons space that encourages creativity, interdisciplinary learning, maker-centred experiences, and student voice.
Lead professional learning by sharing innovative instructional practices, research methodologies, and library resources with colleagues.
Uphold ethical standards regarding student privacy, copyright legislation, and responsible data stewardship in accordance with College policies and applicable legislation.
Build external relationships with professional organizations, libraries, authors, and community partners to enhance programming and remain informed of best practices.
Engage in the broader life of the College by participating actively in faculty meetings, professional learning, committees, co-curricular programming, and performing other duties consistent with the role.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Ontario College of Teachers certification in good standing.
Teacher-Librarian Additional Qualifications (Part 2 or Specialist) and/or a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) are considered strong assets.
Experience working in a school library or Learning Commons, preferably in a K–12 or independent school environment.
Demonstrated success collaborating with educators to design inquiry-based and interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Strong knowledge of information literacy, media literacy, digital citizenship, copyright, and research methodologies.
Experience integrating educational technology and artificial intelligence into teaching and learning in meaningful, ethical, and age-appropriate ways.
Knowledge of library management systems, online databases, digital resource platforms, and learning technologies.
Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
