Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Medical Office Assistant/Receptionist to join orthopaedic surgery healthcare team . This role is vital in providing exceptional patient service, managing medical records, and supporting clinical operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems ( Accuro preferably) , and a solid understanding of medical terminology and billing procedures. Precious orthopedic surgeon office experience will be preferred. Bilingual abilities are a plus to enhance communication with diverse patient populations. Duties
- Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy, managing multi-line phone systems and scheduling appointments using medical scheduling software such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification processes, including Medicare and other third-party payers
- Collect patient information, update medical records, and review documentation for accuracy in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting copayments and explaining clinic policies
- Manage electronic health records (EHR systems) such as Athenahealth or Dentrix, ensuring accurate documentation review and data entry
- Facilitate billing processes including , medical billing, and documentation review for procedures and care plans
- Managing OR & surgical scheduling at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
- Maintain filing systems for medical records and ensure proper documentation of patient interactions and treatment plans
- Support front desk operations by managing appointment scheduling, patient check-in/check-out, and handling phone etiquette professionally
- Assist with office management tasks such as inventory management for office supplies and ensuring compliance with health information management standards
- Collaborate with clinical staff to support care coordination efforts and ensure seamless patient flow within the clinic
- Keeping track of inventories
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or clinic environment is highly preferred
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Accuro, Jane, Meditech,
- Knowledge of medical terminology, billing processes is required
- Experience with health information management practices including HIPAA compliance is necessary
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), typing (10-key), and office management software are essential
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle multi-line phones and maintain professional phone etiquette
- Bilingual abilities are advantageous to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
