The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, located in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown, is a cultural landmark dedicated to sharing Chinese heritage, art, and philosophy through a living garden experience. We offer visitors an opportunity to connect with nature, history, and culture through guided interpretation, exhibitions, and public programming.
Position Overview
The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is looking for customer-service oriented individuals who are energetic, enthusiastic and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join the team. The Visitor Services & Gift Shop Attendant plays a key role in creating a welcoming and engaging experience for all visitors. This position supports daily operations in both Visitor Services and the Garden Gift Shop.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Services:
- Welcome and orient visitors to the Garden
- Provide customer service to Garden visitors with integrity, respect, and responsiveness.
- Provide information on history, exhibitions, and programs
- Assist with or lead guided tours
- Use a POS system to process admissions and transactions and respond to inquiries
- Support opening and closing procedures
- Assist with set-up and take-down of events, workshops, and programming
- Perform other duties as required
Gift Shop:
- Provide excellent customer service and product knowledge
- Process sales using POS system
- Maintain merchandising and shop presentation
- Restock and track inventory
- Assist with displays and seasonal product features
- Receive and organize deliveries
Qualifications
- Completion of high school diploma (Grade 12 or equivalent)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service, professional, takes initiative, demonstrate good judgement and reliable
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in arts, culture, or history
- Basic computer/POS skills
- Retail or visitor services experience is an asset

Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

- Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
International students are not eligible for this position.
