Schedule: 35-40hrs/week (Must be available to work mornings/days/evenings and weekends)

Position Summary:
The Sous Chef supports the daily operation of the kitchen by assisting with food preparation, staff supervision, inventory management, and maintaining food quality standards. This role helps lead the kitchen team, ensures compliance with food safety regulations, and works closely with the Consulting Chef and front-of-house staff to deliver an exceptional dining experience. The Sous Chef is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to teamwork, efficiency, and culinary excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Leads, mentors, and supports the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Oversees daily kitchen activities, ensuring staff follow proper procedures and maintain high standards.
- Conducts training and development for second cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
- Promotes a positive and professional work environment, fostering teamwork and communication.
Cost Control & Inventory Management
- Responsible for inventory, ordering, receiving, storing, and organizing all items required for a fully operational kitchen while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Monitors and manages food costs, portion control, and waste reduction.
- Ensures proper stock rotation (FIFO method) to minimize spoilage and maximize ingredient usage.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Maintains valid Food Handler Certification for BC and ensures all staff adhere to food safety protocols.
- Ensures compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including fire, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Enforces proper food handling, storage, and preparation techniques.
- Oversees kitchen setup, breakdown, and maintains a clean and organized work environment throughout the shift.
Menu Development & Execution
- Works closely with the consulting chef to create new dishes and update menus.
- Ensures all recipes and culinary standards set by the consulting chef and director of operations are followed consistently.
- Organizes workflow to ensure all ingredients are prepared and ready for service.
Collaboration with Front-of-House Staff
- Works closely with front-of-house managers to coordinate service, address issues, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Communicates effectively with servers and bartenders to ensure smooth food delivery and service. Supports special events and catering needs as required.
