Manufacturing Engineer

This role involves every part of the production process. From the procurement of equipment, right through production design and commissioning, you’ll have a major impact on our operations.

Part of this role will involve working closely with the engineering team to optimize designs. You’ve got strong consultation and interpersonal skills that make giving and receiving feedback easy and productive, and you excel when working under tight deadlines.

You’re flexible and knowledgeable at each organizational level. Whether you’re dealing with employees, management, or suppliers, you use clear, even communication; you’ve got strong skills in leadership and communicate priorities (and deadlines) effectively.

When you’re not working in operations, you’ll need to be hands-on: we’re looking for someone who takes initiative and is confident when working with all sorts of mechanical and electrical systems.

Practically speaking, you will:
Work with Design Engineers to understand manufacturing requirements for vehicle power systems and energy storage stations, and provide input to improve ease-of-assembly and disassembly for servicing
Lead DFM&A of all products and projects
Communicate design requirements to suppliers and fabricators, including adherence to HYGs specifications and international standards (knowledge of international standards is an asset)
Support fulfillment of HYG orders, including inspection of in house and outsourced suppliers’ systems, processes, materials, work in process, and final products before shipping
Create inspection and audit records/reports in accordance to ISO-9001
Create Assembly Instructions for HYGs Production (Mechanical and Electrical)
Work with the Engineering & Quality departments to create new internal standards and SOW (Standard Operating Procedures)
Participate in technical customer audit and interpret customer specific requirements and standards
Lead Continuous Improvement projects to improve plant-wide efficiencies, reduce costs and reduce waste
Oversee design or tooling, fixturing, assembly aids for the production team
Specify new manufacturing equipment, process equipment and workflows
Create test methods for validating new products
Qualifications and Details

Post-secondary degree in mechanical, industrial or related field of engineering
P. Eng certification or P. Eng in training
Experience as an engineer, with hands-on experience either as a machinist, millwright, welder, mechanic, or service technician
Ability to read 2D and 3D drawings, with GD&T skillset and CAD skills (Solid Edge or SolidWorks)
Experience with steel fabrication, vehicle assembly, chemical process plants, or mechanical systems, including sensors and electrical wiring
Experience auditing fabricators, conducting QC inspections, and creating reports
Experience with the following codes & standards: ASME B31.3, BPVC, PED, ASME/ANSI B16.5, CSA W47.1, EN 15085, AWS D1.1
Practical knowledge of ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, DFA, 5S, SPC, Gauge R&R, DFMEA, PFMEA, HAZOP, DOE, 8D, Fishbone, 5Y
