Job Overview
An Ocean Import Coordinator manages the end-to-end logistics of international inbound sea freight. They act as the central liaison between overseas agents, shipping lines, customs brokers, and clients. Their primary goal is to ensure shipments are tracked, cleared, and delivered efficiently, compliantly, and cost-effectively.
Core Responsibilities
- Shipment Tracking: Trace and monitor containers from origin to final destination, keeping clients and internal teams updated with ETAs and status changes.
- Documentation Management: Review and prepare vital shipping documents, including Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and pre-alerts.
- Customs Coordination: Liaise with customs brokers to facilitate timely freight release and provide harmonized system (HS) codes or clearance instructions.
- Transportation & Drayage: Arrange the collection and drayage of goods with trucking companies and port terminals.
- Financial Duties: Audit freight invoices, verify charges against quotes, calculate profit shares, and manage client billing.
- Problem Solving: Proactively resolve shipping delays, customs holds, or port issues.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of international shipping regulations, incoterms, and FCL/LCL (Full/Less than Container Load) operations.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERPs, and Microsoft Excel.
- Communication: Ability to negotiate rates with carriers and provide excellent customer service.
- Organization: Capability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Pay: $17.60-$23.60 per hour
