About the Role:
As an Accountant, Regulatory, you will play an integral part in ATCO Electric’s critical regulatory needs. The Accountant, Regulatory is responsible for the collection, analysis and preparation of information that will be used in the compilation of regulatory filings and related process steps for filing with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). The incumbent will work closely with operational and capital accountants on matters related to current or future regulatory filings.
What You Get to Do:
- Provide support and analysis in regulatory applications and proceedings such as Rate and Performance Based Regulation Applications and related Compliance Filings
- Play a role in the preparation and coordination of the annual Rule 005 Financial Results filing
- Ensure compliance with AUC directives as they relate to regulatory accounts and processes
- Examine financial information and liaise with operational and capital accountants to help ensure forecasts, analysis and variance explanations are reasonable
- Prepare and maintain documentation for all processes and procedures in support of regulatory and internal audit purposes
- Respond to requests from internal ATCO groups to provide data in support of initiatives and regulatory proceedings
- Maintain knowledge of current developments in the fields of utility rate regulation through researching literature, reviewing applications submitted by other utilities, and attending conferences and courses as appropriate
- Conduct research on past utility filings and present findings to management
What You Bring:
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience
- Strong customer service skills with a proven ability to initiate and build strong relationships, both within the team and with various levels of management in a large organization
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Enhanced Excel skills, with a strong preference for financial modelling knowledge and/or experience
- Regulatory and/or audit experience is strongly preferred
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including technical writing
- Ability to deliver under tight deadlines, while demonstrating agility and a resilient, positive attitude
- Proven ability to manage priorities and work well in a team environment
