The Role: Product Development Manager
Reporting to Director Private Brands, responsible for identification, development and life cycle management of private brand products on assigned categories. This will be accomplished through supplier identification, negotiations and management, as well as collaboration with merchandising teams in order to drive Private Brands penetration, sales and profit.
Work collaboratively and proactively with Category Managers to identify gaps in current assortments and align on new and innovative private brand products to be developed to close those gaps.
In collaboration with category managers develop product attributes and targeted retails and margins
Develop product specifications based on product attributes and targeted retails and margins
Select vendors and negotiate costs and minimum production and shipping quantities in order to ensure the best possible quality and price for all products.
Present product economics and considerations to category managers for feedback and final alignment
Establish and maintain product development plan and life cycle management for assigned categories.
Develop product packaging and sizing to ensure it is competitive with national brands and other retailers.
Identify and provide recommendations for discontinuation of private brands products when they have outlived their life cycles and assist in the preparation of exit plans for these products.
Evaluate market trends to ensure competitive pricing on all comparable products and communicate pricing findings and recommendations to category managers.
Manage all aspects of supplier set up and item listings with McKesson and Rexall
Negotiate and maintain Private Brand agreements.
Oversee communications to all stores on any out of stock products, in order to maintain store level integrity.
Collaborate with supply chain on monitoring inventory levels to ensure that stock is always replenished and attempt to avoid products being out of stock.
Provide inputs on advertising strategies to marketing and category managers to increase brand awareness.
Ensure quality assurance testing is performed or provided for new and upcoming products to ensure that products are meeting brand standards and required specifications.
Arrange and attend plant tours/audits on a regular basis to ensure Private Brands products are being manufactured to Rexall standards.
Manage all Rexall designs and artwork to maintain the integrity of the Private Brands products as it relates to design across all categories and line extensions
Engage with Rexall marketing and PR agencies in development of private brands campaigns
Attend trade shows, tours, retailers to stay educated on category trends.
Work with Customer Service on addressing customer questions and inquiries
Perform other duties as assigned to support Rexall Pharmacy Group Ltd.
University degree majoring in Marketing, Business Administration or Science disciple.
3-5 years related experience required.
Time management and prioritization skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational, collaboration, financial and analytic skills.
Excellent computer skills, including MS office
Must possess the right balance between being creative and paying attention to detail.
Ability to work in fast paced and changing environment.
Knowledge of related regulations.
Demonstrated presentation and negotiation skills.
