As a Sheet Metal Journeyman, your responsibilities include supervising installers, journeymen, and any apprentice you take on during the day-to-day field operations. You are expected to attend meetings with the superintendent and engineers to review blueprints and specifications for projects. You’ll manage a crew, assign tasks to each, and communicate all safety regulations.
The sheet metal foreman job is ideal for someone who is:
- Organized and analytical
- A problem solver able to make quick decisions
- Able to interpret specifications, blueprints, CAD drawings, BIM renderings, and the associated work orders
- Able to estimate worker-hour and material requirements for job completion
- Experienced in planning, layout, fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal parts/materials, equipment, and products
- Experienced in leading workers and coordinating activities
- Able to perform work accurately and thoroughly even under stressful conditions
- Physically fit
In a typical day, sheet metal foremen may:
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and work orders
- Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations
- Establish and adjust work schedules based on equipment, materials, and capabilities of personnel
- Analyze and resolve work problems
- Coordinate project activities with other trades and office
- Install ductwork
Certificates, licenses, memberships, and courses
- Sheet Metal Worker Trade Certification
- Class 5 drivers license
