The Jolly Coachman Pub is looking for an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to join our high-volume kitchen team. We are seeking a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in consistency and organization, and can help support kitchen operations alongside the Kitchen Manager.
Responsibilities
- Support daily kitchen operations and service execution
- Lead line cooks and kitchen staff during busy service periods
- Ensure all food is prepared consistently to recipe and presentation standards
- Assist with ordering, inventory counts, prep lists, and receiving deliveries
- Complete plate costing and assist with food cost management
- Assist in creating and executing feature menus and daily specials
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards throughout the kitchen
- Assist with scheduling, training, coaching, and development of kitchen staff
- Help control waste, portioning, and kitchen efficiency
- Ensure all opening, closing, and cleaning procedures are completed properly
- Step into any station as needed during service
Qualifications
- Previous Sous Chef or strong kitchen leadership experience preferred
- Experience in a high-volume pub or restaurant environment
- Strong understanding of food costing, menu development, and kitchen organization
- Computer skills required, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, email communication, inventory systems, and recipe/menu documentation
- Ability to multitask and remain composed under pressure
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Knowledge of food safety and kitchen sanitation standards
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Food Safe certification considered an asset
