The main role & accountabilities for the Research & Development Manager is to implement technology development and growth strategies to enhance ABB’s position and profitability in the medium/long term. Manage research and development (R&D) activities and resources by implementing technology projects using local and/or internationally located resources focused on a specific technology or functional area (e.g. hardware/software/electronic/ mechanical) within ABB Installation Products.
As part of the accountabilities, the R&D Manager will lead a team & support the development of design guidelines, technical drawings & documentation, create technology roadmaps for the R&D Installation Products Electrification business, and execute the business unit delivery strategy while collaborating with local management.
The candidate will be involved with facilitating the collaboration of the R&D team with the Product management and Sales team to foster creativity & generate a portfolio of new products and ideas.
The R&D Manager will actively participate in leading a team by:
planning & ensuring the optimal project portfolio for the R&D team
partner with local business units & management team
provide market analysis & evaluate local market requirements regarding product innovation, manufacturing, industry standards & R&D strategies
understand technical & quality problems to actively provide technical support internally & externally
proactively action situations to mitigate risk by supporting the appropriate protection of newly created intellectual property
manage & prepare the annual & multi-year budget in cooperation with local management.
Possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering
Leadership role 7-10 years’ experience in managing various team members
Strong technical understanding of projects, designs, R&D & market data in manufacturing
Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in French & English
Strong ability to lead by example, drive results & collaborate with various partners internally & externally
