We're seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver to support both of our parents in their Carlton Place home. Our dad, 92, is experiencing both cognitive and physical decline. He uses a walker and needs assistance getting up safely, transferring, and with toileting. He's a type 2 diabetic on insulin, has a history of falls, and requires supervision due to cognitive challenges that affect his ability to follow safety instructions consistently. Our mom, 88, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's but remains physically mobile and independent with personal care. She needs supervision for safety, occasional reminders, and benefits from a calm, patient presence.
About the clients: Both parents want to remain in their home rather than move to a care facility. Dad is currently hospitalized but will be discharged home soon. Mom manages well with her daily routines but has significant short-term memory loss. Dad sleeps frequently throughout the day and has multiple medical conditions including heart disease, kidney function issues, and is on blood thinners. Both parents are cooperative and appreciate support.
Responsibilities:
- Assist dad with safe transfers using his walker
- Provide toileting support and personal care for dad
- Supervise both parents for safety throughout the day
- Manage medication reminders for both parents
- Assist with light meal preparation and encourage adequate nutrition and hydration
- Monitor for signs of confusion, falls, or health changes
- Help dad with insulin administration as needed
- Provide companionship and engage both parents in activities
- Maintain a clean and safe environment in common areas
- Complete daily care reports documenting activities, meals, medications, and any concerns
What we're looking for:
- Experience with Alzheimer's and dementia care
- Strong skills in mobility assistance and safe transfer techniques
- Comfortable providing toileting and personal care
- Ability to care for two clients simultaneously with different needs
- Patient, calm demeanor with excellent communication skills
- Ability to speak English clearly and loudly
- Experience with diabetic care and insulin management preferred
- Reliable, takes initiative, and communicates proactively with family
- Understanding of fall prevention and safety monitoring
Schedule: Daily care needed, approximately 12 hours per day, 7 days per week. This will likely require a team of 2-3 caregivers working consistent shifts. Specific shift times to be determined but will cover daytime hours when both parents are awake and active.
