What is the opportunity?
As a Director, Real Estate, you will be responsible for business development and management of a portfolio of commercial real estate clients, with a primary focus on providing lending solutions for low-rise and high-rise residential real estate projects as well as income producing real estate. In this role, you will work directly with some of RBC’s most highly-valued clients, structuring bilateral as well as large, complex syndicated facilities. You will act as a trusted strategic advisor, connecting clients with other RBC partners to meet their diverse commercial and personal financial needs. While credit structuring and portfolio management is ultimately your responsibility, you will be supported by an Associate Director, who will assist with analyzing and underwriting new loan requests, including compiling financial and market information and preparing credit submissions for RBC’s real estate risk management group for loan adjudication. Other responsibilities include maintaining your portfolio in good credit health, including proactively managing credit expiries, securities and reporting requirements.
What will you do?
Manage a portfolio of high-value Real Estate clients
Deliver on financing requests to assist with income producing real estate, predevelopment, land servicing and construction costs for low-rise and high-rise residential projects, including large, complex syndicated transactions;
Oversee loan structuring and maintain responsibility for quality of credit underwriting;
Mentor and coach Associate Directors in deal structuring, negotiation skills, RBC lending guidelines, policies and risk appetite, profitability requirements;
Proactively maintain the health and integrity of accounts from a portfolio quality management perspective;
Through long-term strategic planning with clients, maintain an ongoing sales pipeline of real estate transactions and identify opportunities where RBC can support our clients through platforms outside of real estate financing (e.g. Residential Mortgage program, Private Banking, Capital Markets, Commercial Mortgages); and
Develop and maintain a strong external network in the Calgary real estate community, including lending syndicate partners, law firms, cost consultants, etc.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Previous real estate lending experience;
Proven track record in sales and business development and exceptional client relationship management;
Superior negotiation skills supported by deep industry expertise;
Excellent credit structuring and underwriting skills, and strong background of project budget and financial statement analysis;
Strong computer skills (especially Microsoft Word and Excel);
Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
Must be independent worker and team player with a positive attitude;
Motivated proactive thinker with detail-oriented and creative problem solving approach;
Ability to quickly develop a working knowledge of programs and systems employed by the Bank; and
Ongoing and consistent adoption of the Banks goals and core values.
