Early Stages Performing Arts Teacher – Saturdays
Kanata, Ottawa
Saturdays, 1:15–2:45 p.m.
From $35/hour
Fall term: September 19–November 28, 2026
Stagecoach Performing Arts Ottawa West is looking for an engaging and confident teacher to lead our Saturday Early Stages class for children aged 4–6.
Early Stages is a 90-minute performing arts class combining singing, dancing and drama through imaginative play, storytelling, movement, music and creative activities.
This is a lead teaching position, rather than an assistant role. We are particularly interested in applicants who have previous experience independently leading classes, activities or programmes for young children.
You do not need to be a specialist in all three performing arts disciplines. We are looking for someone who is comfortable leading young children, enjoys the performing arts, and can create a warm, playful and well-structured classroom.
The role
You will lead one 90-minute Early Stages class each Saturday from 1:15–2:45 p.m. during Stagecoach school terms.
The class is divided between singing, dancing and drama, with activities adapted to suit children aged 4–6. Teachers receive curriculum guidance, resources and support from Stagecoach, while still having plenty of room to bring their own creativity and teaching style to the programme.
You will also be supported in class by an Early Stages Assistant, who helps with transitions, classroom management and group activities.
For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity for paid shadowing and assisting alongside an experienced Early Stages teacher during earlier Saturday classes before taking full responsibility for the class.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Have previous experience independently leading groups of young children
- Have experience in early childhood education, elementary education, children's theatre, performing arts instruction, recreation programming or a similar setting
- Have a background or strong interest in drama, music, dance, musical theatre or the performing arts
- Are warm, playful and confident while still providing clear structure
- Are reliable and comfortable taking responsibility for your own class
- Enjoy working collaboratively as part of a teaching team
- Are available Saturdays during our fall, winter and spring terms
- Are able to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check
Professional, post-secondary or substantial teaching experience in performing arts, education, early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
An Early Childhood Education qualification is an asset but is not required.
