Position Summary
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and actively participating in the day-to-day quality activities of a precision CNC machining operation serving the aerospace, defense, and nuclear power generation industries.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring the successful candidate to work directly with inspection personnel, machinists, production supervisors, engineering, and management to ensure that products consistently meet customer, drawing, regulatory, and quality management system requirements.
The Quality Supervisor will provide leadership to the Quality Department while remaining actively involved in inspection, problem solving, documentation, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities. The successful candidate should have familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, along with a strong understanding of quality requirements within a precision machining environment.
This position is intended to provide an opportunity for professional development and, based on performance and demonstrated leadership capability, may grow into a Quality Manager position over time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Department Leadership
- Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to Quality Department personnel.
- Establish priorities for inspection and quality activities based on production and customer requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to inspectors, machinists, production personnel, and other team members.
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and attention to detail throughout the organization.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and Management to resolve quality-related issues.
- Assist in the training and development of quality and production personnel.
- Ensure quality concerns are communicated promptly and effectively to appropriate personnel and management.
Hands-On Inspection & Quality Control
- Perform and/or oversee incoming, in-process, first-piece, final, and other required inspections.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and customer-specific quality requirements.
- Verify manufactured components for dimensional and specification compliance.
- Support inspection activities using appropriate precision measuring and inspection equipment.
- Assist with the development and improvement of inspection methods and processes.
- Ensure inspection records and objective evidence of conformity are properly completed and maintained.
- Support the identification, segregation, documentation, and disposition of nonconforming material.
- Work directly with CNC machining and production personnel to identify and resolve quality concerns at the source.
Quality Management Systems
- Support the maintenance and continued development of the company's AS9100 and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Ensure quality procedures, work instructions, forms, and records are properly maintained and followed.
- Assist with internal quality audits and follow-up activities.
- Participate in customer, registrar, and other external audits as required.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness of the Quality Management System.
- Support document control, record retention, calibration, traceability, and other applicable quality system requirements.
- Assist management with maintaining compliance with applicable customer, industry, and regulatory requirements.
Nonconformance & Corrective Action
- Lead and participate in the investigation of internal and external nonconformances.
- Assist in determining root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Prepare and/or coordinate corrective action responses to customers.
- Monitor corrective actions to ensure they have been implemented and are effective.
- Work with production and engineering personnel to reduce scrap, rework, and recurring quality issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives based on quality trends and operational performance.
Customer & Supplier Quality
- Assist in responding to customer quality concerns, requests, and corrective actions.
- Review customer quality requirements and ensure they are understood and incorporated into manufacturing and inspection activities.
- Support customer source inspections and quality audits when required.
- Assist Purchasing and Management with supplier quality issues and supplier corrective actions.
- Participate in the evaluation and improvement of supplier quality performance where appropriate.
Measurement & Calibration
- Support the company's calibration and measurement equipment control program.
- Ensure measuring and inspection equipment is appropriate for its intended use and maintained in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Assist with determining inspection and measurement requirements for new and existing components.
- Support measurement system improvement and resolution of measurement-related issues.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience in a CNC machining, precision machining, or similar manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience in a quality inspection, quality technician, quality lead, or supervisory capacity.
- Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management System requirements.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements.
- Experience working within highly regulated or quality-critical industries such as aerospace, defense, nuclear, automotive, medical, or similar industries is an asset.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and dimensional tolerances.
- Good working knowledge of precision measuring and inspection equipment.
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience with nonconformance reporting, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement.
- Internal auditing experience is an asset.
- Experience with CMM inspection and/or CMM programming is an asset.
- Familiarity with first article inspection requirements, including AS9102, is an asset.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to work effectively with electronic quality records and documentation.

This position represents an opportunity for an experienced quality professional to take on increased leadership responsibility while remaining directly involved in the technical and operational aspects of quality. As the successful candidate develops a deeper understanding of the company's operations, customers, Quality Management System, and regulatory requirements, there is an opportunity for the role to progress toward Quality Manager, with broader responsibility for the overall Quality Management System, customer quality, regulatory compliance, quality strategy, departmental leadership, and continuous improvement.
Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
