Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Project Manager to join our construction team in Edmonton, Alberta. The successful candidate will have a strong background managing multi-family residential, high-rise, and commercial construction projects, with hands-on experience in both concrete construction and wood-frame construction.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing projects from pre-construction through completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
The ideal candidate is a strong construction leader who understands the complexities of large-scale projects, can effectively manage consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams, and has the technical and commercial skills required to successfully deliver complex projects in the Alberta market.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and direction for assigned construction projects from pre-construction through turnover.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cash flows, procurement plans, and construction strategies.
- Establish project objectives, milestones, and performance targets.
- Lead project teams including Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Site Superintendents, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, delays, cost impacts, and potential claims.
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, consultants, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Coordinate multiple projects or phases simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail.
Construction Operations
- Provide strong technical and operational oversight of concrete, wood-frame, and hybrid construction.
- Manage projects involving high-rise and mid-rise concrete structures, podium construction, wood-frame residential buildings, and commercial developments.
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and construction methodologies.
- Coordinate structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and building-envelope requirements.
- Work closely with site teams to resolve construction issues and maintain project momentum.
- Participate in constructability reviews and identify opportunities for value engineering and cost savings.
- Ensure procurement and long-lead materials are coordinated with the project schedule.
Financial Management
- Take ownership of project budgets, cost reporting, forecasting, and financial performance.
- Review and approve project expenditures, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and change orders.
- Manage project changes, extras, credits, and potential claims.
- Prepare monthly cost reports and forecasts.
- Identify cost risks early and implement corrective measures.
- Work with estimating and pre-construction teams on budgets, tenders, and project transitions.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules in collaboration with the construction team.
- Monitor critical path activities and establish recovery strategies when required.
- Coordinate subcontractor schedules and major construction milestones.
- Ensure procurement, permitting, design, and construction activities remain aligned.
- Lead regular project meetings and provide clear reporting to senior management and ownership.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Ensure projects comply with Alberta legislation, applicable building codes, project specifications, and company policies.
- Work closely with site leadership to ensure quality-control procedures are implemented.
- Identify and resolve deficiencies before project turnover.
- Support commissioning, inspections, occupancy, closeout, and final turnover activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- 8–12+ years of progressive construction project management experience, preferably with a general contractor or construction manager.
- Proven experience delivering multi-family residential and/or commercial construction projects.
- Significant experience with high-rise or mid-rise construction.
- Strong experience with concrete construction, including foundations, forming, reinforcing, suspended slabs, and concrete structures.
- Experience with wood-frame construction, ideally multi-family wood-frame projects.
- Experience managing projects from pre-construction through completion and turnover.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement, scheduling, estimating, cost control, and change management.
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and building systems.
- Experience working with consultants, architects, engineers, municipalities, and regulatory authorities.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta construction practices and applicable building codes.
- Proficiency with project management and scheduling software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar platforms.
Pay: From $110,000.00 per year
