Shipping & Receiving Supervisor – Windows & Doors Manufacturing
About the Opportunity
Our client is an established manufacturer specializing in windows and related building products. They are seeking an experienced Shipping & Receiving Supervisor with direct experience in windows or a closely related building-products manufacturing environment.
This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day shipping and receiving operation, coordinating the movement of finished goods and incoming materials, leading warehouse and shipping personnel, and ensuring products are staged, loaded, received, and delivered safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day Shipping & Receiving department.
- Supervise, coach, and provide direction to Shipping/Receiving employees and other assigned team members.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, trailers, carriers, and transportation providers.
- Ensure finished products are properly staged and sequenced according to production schedules, delivery priorities, and customer requirements.
- Oversee loading and unloading activities to ensure products are handled safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Work closely with Production Supervisors and Operations to adjust shipping priorities based on production output and changing customer needs.
- Review shipping documentation, proof of delivery records, and related paperwork for accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate damaged, missing, incorrect, or delayed shipments and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
- Support inventory control activities, including physical counts, discrepancy investigations, stock organization, and material movement.
- Monitor departmental performance through KPIs and identify opportunities to improve productivity.
- Develop, update, and ensure compliance with departmental SOPs and work instructions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage employee scheduling, attendance, vacation requests, overtime, labour requirements, and departmental coverage.
- Coach and develop employees, provide ongoing feedback, and address performance or disciplinary matters as required.
- Maintain a strong focus on workplace health and safety and ensure employees follow required procedures, PPE requirements, and safe-work practices.
- Participate in investigations involving near misses, first-aid incidents, workplace injuries, and other safety concerns.
- Ensure material-handling equipment and company vehicles are appropriately inspected and maintained.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure departmental documentation is completed in accordance with company procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of progressive Shipping & Receiving, Warehouse, Logistics, Materials, or related experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience within windows, doors, fenestration, building products, or a closely related manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Previous supervisory or team-lead experience within a warehouse, shipping, receiving, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of inbound and outbound shipping processes, staging, loading, receiving, inventory movement, and transportation coordination.
- Experience working closely with production teams and managing shipping priorities around manufacturing schedules.
- Experience coordinating carriers, transportation providers, shipping documentation, and delivery issues.
- Strong understanding of inventory-control practices and physical inventory processes.
- Experience with employee scheduling, coaching, training, performance management, and day-to-day team leadership.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and remain composed in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where priorities may change throughout the day.
