Organizational Overview
As an international congregation of women religious originating in Halifax, N.S., since 1849, the mission of the Sisters of Charity Halifax is to give joyful witness to love: the love of God, of one another, and of all persons. Women of faith with a passion for serving those in need, the Sisters’ ministries have focused on education, healthcare, and social service in Canada, USA, and Latin America. The priorities of the Sisters are to make God’s love visible in all the places they minister by responding to the cries of the poor, addressing the climate crisis, and fostering racial justice.
Caritas Residence
Caritas Residence is the retirement residence for the Sisters of Charity in Halifax. The residence overlooks the Bedford Basin, located on the grounds adjacent to Mount Saint Vincent University and the former Sisters of Charity Motherhouse. Originally established as a retirement residence exclusively for the Sisters of Charity, Caritas has evolved in response to the changing needs of the Sisters and the broader community. Today, Caritas provides independent living, assisted living, and long-term care for the Sisters of Charity and other senior residents.
Role Overview
The Sisters of Charity Halifax is seeking a part-time Team Support Member to join the Coordinator’s Team at Caritas Residence. Working with approximately 40 Sisters of Charity, this role supports their community and religious life and each Sisters’ overall well-being. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Coordinator, support staff, facility administrators, healthcare providers, and Chaplaincy.
Key Responsibilities
· Support the Coordinator and her team in fostering a positive, harmonious community and religious life for the Sisters.
· Build trusting relationships with the Sisters by being a compassionate, patient, and attentive listener who treats each person with dignity and respect.
· Advocate for the Sisters and respond to their individual needs, including assisting with appointments, activities, and access to support and services.
· Promote a holistic approach to well-being that recognizes the spiritual, physical, emotional, mental, and social dimensions of each Sister’s life.
· Assist with the planning and coordination of religious celebrations, traditions, funeral services, feast days, jubilees, retreats, and other community events that honour the Sisters and strengthen community life.
· Foster positive communication and collaborative relationships with Sisters, staff, health-care providers, chaplaincy, and others who share the Caritas community.
· Maintain appropriate confidentiality, discretion, and accountability in all aspects of the role, and report to the Coordinator and Congregational Leadership Team as required.
· Work collaboratively as an active member of the Coordinator’s team, adapting to changing priorities and responding to the needs of the community.
· Participate in shared on-call responsibilities and respond appropriately to emergencies when required.
Qualifications
· Post-secondary education in a related field such as health care, recreation, social sciences, gerontology, human services, or a related discipline.
· A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience working with older adults, in community services, health care, social services, or a related setting.
· A valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence and a clean driving record.
· Genuine interest in and respect for religious life, with a willingness to participate in and support the religious and community life of the Sisters.
· Knowledge of, or experience working within, a religious or faith-based community is considered an asset.
· A demonstrated passion for supporting, accompanying, and caring for older adults, with an understanding of their diverse physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
· An understanding of, and commitment to, the mission and values of the Sisters of Charity, Halifax.
· Excellent communication, listening, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and compassionately with Sisters, staff, healthcare providers, and community partners.
· Strong critical-thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
· Proficiency with computers; experience with Mac and Microsoft 365 is considered an asset.
· Flexibility and willingness to adjust working hours when the needs of the Sisters or community require support beyond traditional working hours.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, while recognizing when priorities need to shift throughout the day.
· Demonstrated compassion, patience, discretion, reliability, and respect for confidentiality.

Annual Renumeration
This is a part-time position, based on 20 hours per week, with an annual remuneration in the range of $28,000 - 31,000 / plus 4% vacation pay.
