JOE. Hot+Cold is our little coffee shop with a big personality.
We're part of The Grove family, with a location at The Grove Motel in Colchester. We make great coffee, serve great people and firmly believe a coffee shop should be somewhere you actually want to hang out.
We're looking for another great human to join the JOE. team.
Yes, you'll make coffee.
But you'll also welcome hotel guests, get to know our regulars, keep things moving when there's a lineup, make the café look fantastic, restock before someone has to ask, clean constantly, and help create the kind of place people want to come back to.
Because a beautiful latte served across a sticky counter isn't really our thing.
YOU MIGHT BE OUR KIND OF PERSON IF:
- You genuinely like people.
- You're naturally friendly, warm and comfortable starting a conversation.
- You care about making a great cup of coffee and making it look great too.
- You're quick, organized and can keep your cool when everyone apparently decides they need coffee at exactly the same time.
- You notice when something needs to be cleaned, stocked, wiped, filled or fixed, and you just do it.
- Cleanliness matters to you. A lot.
- You understand that if you have time to lean, there's probably something at JOE. that could use a little love.
- You're dependable and show up when you're scheduled.
- You can work independently without needing someone to constantly give you your next task.
- You're equally happy jumping in to help a teammate.
- You care about the little details because you know guests notice them too.
- You bring some personality to work. We're not really a robotic "next please" kind of place.
Previous barista or hospitality experience is definitely an asset, but it isn't everything.
We can teach you our drinks, equipment and systems.
We can't teach you to care.
That's the part we're really looking for.
LET'S TALK ABOUT CLEAN
This deserves its own section.
JOE. is an open, guest-facing environment. People can see our counters, our equipment, our floors, our dishes and pretty much everything we're doing.
We want it looking fantastic.
That means cleaning isn't something we do at the end of the shift. It's part of the job all day long.
If you're someone who automatically wipes the counter, straightens something that's crooked, notices the fingerprints on the fridge and would never walk past a full garbage bin hoping someone else deals with it, we're already speaking the same language.
AVAILABILITY REALLY MATTERS
JOE. and our motel operate seven days a week, and we're looking for someone with broad availability throughout the week.
You must have regular availability on both weekdays and weekends.
This isn't a position designed around limited after-school or weekend-only availability. If you're currently in school but happen to have broad daytime availability, great. Otherwise, the scheduling requirements of this particular position probably won't be a fit.

JOE. Hot+Cold is part of The Grove, a locally owned hospitality company behind The Grove Hotel in Kingsville and The Grove Motel in Colchester.
We're colourful, creative and deliberately a little different.
We care about great hospitality without making it stuffy. We work hard, help each other, take pride in our spaces and believe work is considerably better when you actually like the people you're doing it with.
Our guests might be grabbing their first coffee of the morning, checking into one of our hotels, meeting a friend, working for an hour or simply stopping in because they know we'll remember their order.
However they find us, we want them to leave a little happier than when they arrived.
