This position will report to Engineering Systems Team Leader.

ital project performance evaluation as well as development of business cases for project ideas and subsequent project stages. Portfolio analysts will work with Portfolio Team Leaders, Internal NOVA Engineering / Project Teams, External Engineering Providers (EPs) and Construction Contractors to ensure appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are established and project / portfolio performance is monitored / assessed against these KPIs.

The Portfolio Analyst will be a member of Engineering System’s and Project Controls Team. Engineering Systems and Project Controls Team provides Estimating, Cost Engineering, Planning, Scheduling, Project Accounting and Financial Reporting processes, systems and resources to Sustaining Capital Projects.

Define and develop project database requirements; key data, collection, processing, analysis and reporting.
Develop procedures for gathering / analyzing data as well as techniques for interpreting the results to make the analysis easier, precise and accurate.
Review processes followed by internal and external engineering resources to gather project data for completeness, accuracy and conformance with established procedures.
Establish new and maintain existing analysis tools in collaboration with estimator to evaluate project estimates for competitiveness; including estimating parameters, factors, productivity, complexity of engineering design, pricing, and classification of subcontractors.
Draw upon the knowledge of team members in related technology and manufacturing process areas to analyze, evaluate the context, and normalize data for time and project conditions.
Apply statistical analysis and models for predictive forecasting. Compile escalation historical data and create forward looking forecasts.
Conduct comparative studies and analysis of projects; Conduct 3rd Party research, studies, and surveys. Support 3rd Party audits, benchmarking and data analysis.
Collaborate with Purchasing to develop and implement contract requirements to ensure database inputs are aligned.
Employ data visualization techniques to help clearly and efficiently communicate the message to a variety of stakeholders.
Ensure that required portfolio analytics documents / databases are kept up-to-date.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance competitiveness and accuracy for project cost and schedule KPIs.
Conduct Capital Cash Flow Reviews, Portfolio KPI Analysis / Reporting (At risk, Completed, Delayed, Cost Performance Index - CPI, Schedule performance Index - SPI etc.)
Validate and/or Create Business Cases as per the Business Case Development and Approval Matrix.
Drive consistency in the application of Business Case Tools and processes across the organization through networking and alignment with Corporate Finance.
Support Portfolio Managers, Champions, and Business Case Tool Users as required to promote consistent Business Case development. Provide regional D&RA facilitation.
Build critical Business Case related knowledge across different areas of the organization.
Support training / coaching related to Business Case Tools for current and new users.

The successful candidate should have an engineering degree or engineering technology diploma or a post-secondary degree in Data Science with 8+ years of experience. Lean Six Sigma certification and prior experience with evaluations / analysis of capital projects / portfolios is preferred.

In-depth hands-on experience working within complex project analytical systems.
Knowledge of statistical analysis and database management.
Advanced computer skills with a superior working knowledge of the MS Office suite of products; Aspen suite of products; SAP; spreadsheets, databases, Scheduling Software like Primavera P6.
Knowledge of performance measurement systems, project management tools, project controls concepts, terminology and methodologies; including engineering, procurement, and construction work processes, practices, standards and codes.
Demonstrated planning skills, self-motivated, and results oriented, decision-making, problem-solving, prioritization, planning and analytical skills.
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills are required.
