Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Emergency Room Nurse to join our healthcare teams in BC/Nova Scotia. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency environment, utilizing their expertise in acute care, pain management, and patient advocacy. This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse patient populations, including pediatrics, seniors, and individuals requiring complex case management. The ER Nurse will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely and effective treatment, demonstrating proficiency in medical terminology, medication administration, and electronic health record systems such as Epic and Cerner.
Responsibilities
- Assess and prioritize patient conditions upon arrival, providing immediate emergency care as needed.
- Administer medications accurately following established protocols and physician orders.
- Monitor patient vital signs and respond promptly to changes in condition.
- Document all patient interactions and treatments thoroughly within electronic health records (Epic, Cerner).
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.
- Manage pain effectively through appropriate interventions and communication with patients.
- Perform procedures such as phlebotomy, wound care, and assisting with laboratory tests.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control protocols.
- Provide specialized care for pediatric, senior, dementia, assisted living, or home care patients as needed.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license for BC/Nova Scotia with current registration.
- Proven experience in hospital emergency departments or acute care settings.
- Proficiency with electronic health records systems such as Epic and Cerner.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration, pain management, and case management.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, seniors, or individuals requiring specialized care such as dementia or home care.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations efficiently while maintaining compassionate patient interactions.
- Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and patient education.
- Additional skills in phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, or medical office experience are advantageous. This position is integral to delivering exceptional emergency healthcare services while fostering a collaborative team environment dedicated to patient well-being.
