Under the general supervision of the portfolio Manager, the Procurement Specialist I performs purchasing functions consistent with established AHS procurement policies and practices within the purchasing portfolio that services all sites within the Zones. The Procurement Specialist I is responsible for the acquisition of supplies, equipment, services, or supporting function within assigned work groups. The Procurement Specialist I performs transactional acquisition processes in alignment with defined routine and complex procedures, cost thresholds, and decision making algorithms. The Procurement Specialist I, researches/collates information, prepares requests for quotations, and issues purchase orders using preset templates according to established rules outlining segregation of duties, expedites materials ensuring on-time delivery and resolves all invoice discrepancies.

You will be responsible for the acquisition and procurement of routinely purchased supplies, equipment and services within assigned work groups. Your other responsibilities may include researching and collating information, preparing requests for quotations, and issuing purchase orders using pre-set templates and established rules.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of post-secondary education and Supply Chain Management courses are required. Combination of education and experience may be considered. Intermediate understanding of purchasing fundamentals. 1-3 years of purchasing experience is required. Proficiency with MS office applications required. Keyboarding skills with minimum of 30wpm required. Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff, management, and vendors is required. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills required. Effective organizational skills, ability to prioritize, accuracy and attention to detail. Oracle or other ERP system experience is required. Good understanding of Supplier Relationship Management principles. Client focused and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Basic understanding of contract language and legal terminology. Must be a self-starter; demonstrate initiative and be able to action assigned tasks.
Healthcare and/or Public Purchasing/supply chain experience is an asset. Relevant designations pertaining to business and/or supply chain management preferred.
