Applications are invited for the temporary position of part-time Hairstyling Technologist in the Media, Trades and Technology Division. The starting salary is $32.74/hour for up to 24 hours per week. Additional hours may be required at peak times during the year such as start or end of term. The position is located at the Welland Campus. This is a temporary position and is set to commence in July 2026 and conclude in September 2026. It may be subject to an extension by mutual agreement of the parties.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Trades the successful candidate will provide specialized skills to ensure the organization, maintenance and operation of the Hairstyling labs for all activities related to the operation of the hairstyling programs. The successful candidate will be responsible to demonstrate, supervise and provide formative and summative feedback to students in clinical lab work under the supervision of the course Professor.

Work co-operatively with the faculty to plan and organize activities in the salon for the clinic courses in the Hairstyling program

Explain the correct procedures and/or principles, demonstrates and coaches where required to reinforce the prescribed techniques previously taught by the faculty in a formal academic setting

Assist with the assignment of grades related to a student’s clinical performance, utilizing criteria specified by the course Professor

Maintain inventory control and ensure that the required material is on hand for the labs and clinical

Support the operation of the learning enterprise and ensure that the clients are booked properly

Work with the Coordinator and Academic Business Manager to ensure that the material fee items required by students are ordered and on site on time

Work with the program Coordinator and the Administrative Assistant of the School of Trades to ensure efficient use of labs in the creation of timetables and schedules

Monitor the security, safety and housekeeping practices in the salons and storefront operation

Completed an apprenticeship and hold a current Certificate of Qualification in Hairstyling

A minimum of three (3) years of trade related experience working in a hair salon and having had exposure to the operation of a busy salon that offers teaching/mentoring to apprentices/new stylists

Possess excellent organizational & time management skills

Possess strong customer service skills

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
