Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Director, Space Flight Laboratory, and day to day supervision by the head engineering technician, the Engineering Technologist performs electronics and wiring harness assembly and inspection for space applications.

Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies according to the needs of the facility
Designing, modifying and fabricating custom lab apparatus
Analyzing technical solutions to ensure compliance with best practice and industry standards
Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees
Checking to ensure equipment is in working order
Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
Ensuring the safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials while operating within close proximity to others
Ordering supplies with approval

Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
College Diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent education and industrial training. Must be certified to the Joint Industry Standard (J-STD), with Space Addendum (Rev E or later) preferred.
Minimum two years related experience in the electronics manufacturing industry and preferably working in a satellite manufacturing facility equipped with clean room, thermal vacuum chamber, vibration table, soldering stations, satellite integration areas.
Demonstrated experience hand soldering of integrated circuits and analog components on printed circuit boards.
Experience with soldering by hand surface mount components, microscope inspection, ball grid arrays.
Must be familiar with industrial electronics manufacturing environment and different soldering and inspection techniques in a production setting.
Excellent communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work under detailed direction and make routine decisions.
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, including on tasks under tight timelines requiring critical attention.
Good analytical skills.
Familiarity with fabrication materials, techniques and methods for delicate electronics and eletro-mechanical equipment.
Experience with hot air surface mount soldering equipment, and specialized equipment for complicated parts such as ball grid arrays.
Knowledge of satellite manufacturing facility needs, including equipment maintenance and calibration, temperature and humidity requirements, electrostatic discharge controls, surface mount soldering, electronics assembly inspection.
Must be familiar with configuration control systems, as-designed, as-built drawings (schematics, layout diagrams, parts lists, and other documentation supporting electronics assembly).
Must have demonstrated ability to assemble by hand and inspect high part count boards (200+ parts) in 2-3 days or less.
Strong accuracy and attention to detail.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW Pay Band 07 - $51,656 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $66,061. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
