We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join Primary Care Alberta (PCA) FAST (Facilitated Access to Specialized Treatment) provincial central referral intake program. Reporting to the Manager, the central intake RN will work closely with referring providers, specialists and MOAs to efficiently process patient referrals for specialist consultations – from receipt in the FAST central access office to appointment notification. The RN will collaborate with a team of RNs and Administrative Support staff to receive, screen, and assign referrals to the appropriate specialists. Additionally, the RN will ensure that standard workflows are followed to promote best practices, optimize processing times, and guarantee timely referral distribution to specialist offices with clear communication to all involved providers. The role also involves participation in process and quality improvement initiatives at the program, department, and zone levels.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience in a central referral intake program including referral triage, prioritization frameworks, data review, and reporting interpretation or acute care nursing in a surgical setting/unit. Knowledge of surgical specialties, referrals, primary care, and specialty care services is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word, and a typing speed of at least 35 WPM, are essential. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills are required, along with excellent attention to detail. Must be able to work effectively with healthcare professionals, physicians, and patients, while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent interruptions and changing workloads. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, manage confidential information in accordance with privacy legislation (e.g., HIA), and provide excellent customer service through active listening and professionalism. Proven capacity to handle complex issues, adapt to change, and develop innovative solutions. Physical requirements include prolonged sitting and repetitive computer use. For rural zones, comfort and confidence working virtually and using remote collaboration tools are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Adobe, Excel, Connect Care, and Alberta Netcare is an asset. Experience with electronic referral systems, digital workflow platforms, RightFax and Genesys. Proven support of process improvement and change management in healthcare settings. Training in emotional intelligence or cultural competence for diverse patient interactions is considered an asset.
