Job Summary

The role of Licensed Practical Nurse is to care for the medical needs of children in the program. A Licensed Practical Nurse at Hope’s Home works in a team environment along with the families to provide individually assessed care that meets the evolving needs of each medically fragile child.

6 to 8 hrs shifts - Monday to Friday

Wage is $31.49 per hour

Major Responsibilities & Key Activities

  • Provide medical care within the full scope of practice as is outlined for Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Offer direct nursing care for medically fragile children
  • Offer direct nursing care for complex medical, nursing and intervention therapies due to disabilities and/or chronic diseases
  • Provide a holistic approach of health and healing along with nursing care for medically fragile children.
  • Assist in physical assessments of children
  • Administer medications; gastric tube feeds
  • Monitor and administer tracheotomy care
  • Monitor and manage oxygen saturation and ventilator equipment
  • Develop and manage nursing care plans for medically fragile children
  • Advocate on behalf of the health care needs of medically fragile children

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Record Applicants must have a Practical Nursing certificate including the Administration of Medications
  • Current license with Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN) is required.
  • Minimum 2 years Pediatric Experiencepreferred
  • Knowledge of current nursing practices
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with different behavioral/physical disorders
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively and compassionately with medically fragile children
  • Demonstration of strong interpersonal and professional skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent organizational skills
  • Sense of professionalism, leadership; awareness and appreciation of diversity
  • Expresses a concern for health, safety, and the environmental surroundings
  • Ability to work as a team player and accountability in independent decision making
  • Strong work ethic with a focus on honesty, commitment, and a desire to work with children and their families
  • Demonstration of basic technology use
  • Experience with ventilators an asset
  • Proficient use of computers an asset
  • Possess the ability to handle physically demanding and challenging tasks
  • Physical ability to perform and safely work with objects or persons of varying sizes:
  • Exertion of ~100 lbsof force occasionally
  • Exertion of ~50 lbsof force regularly
  • Exertion of ~25 lbsof force continuously
